Recent Update

Chad and I have been so busy lately that I actually had to put ‘update blog’ on a to-do list.

Here’s a few things that have happened in the past 3 months:

- Chad and I bought a place in Leth, flipped it (did a lot of renos), and are now renting it out. Maybe I'll make a blog of the before and after pictures, quite a change!
- As of a month ago my Mom started having problems dealing with the divorce so I've been going back and forth to Medicine Hat to offer her comfort and my support, she's doing so much better now!
- Trying to convince my Dad having the lady he met 4 months ago that is moving in already is not a good idea
- Helping our current roommate pack and move out to Turner Valley (and he has LOTS of stuff)
- Helping Cody (my bro) and Nevada look for a job in Calgary so they can move up here (I'm really excited for that!)
- Completely unpacking everything that Mom had in storage in her garage, sorting it, and re-packing it up properly and orderly (in plus 38 degree weather too, it took an entire week!)
- Battling Strep throat and other illnesses (due to exhaustion and stress apparently)
- Getting dye in my eyes when my eyelashes were dyed which landed me hours in the emergency room (quite the story, let me tell you!)
- Getting new sod at the townhouse which really REALLY doesn’t want to live. We’re nursing it back to life though!
- Lastly, and most excitingly, Chad and I bought a house together in Calgary that we both absolutely adore! It's in Cedarbrae (SW Calgary), has 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, fully finished basement, wet bar, sauna, gorgeous yard and a GREAT kitchen. We move in August 17th so be looking for an invite to the housewarming party!!

Seven Random Facts

Ahhh!! I was tagged by Susan, so now it's my turn to share 7 random facts.

Here are the rules… Each person tagged gives 7 random facts about themselves. Those tagged need to write in their blogs the 7 facts, as well as the rules of the game. You need to tag seven others and list their names on your blog.

1. For reasons unknown to me, I absolutely love heavy metal. My music tastes very DRASTICALLY since one minute I'll be listening to Led Zeppelin (favorite band) and the next second I'll be listening to trance music. It seems the more unique the music, the more interested I am in it. Some I have listened to recently are "Fractal Pattern", "Sigur Ros", and "Dark Tranquility".

2. I am a gamer. If you have a Wii, I am your new best friend. My ideal night is getting a group together for a classic halo tournament or racing. I love it.

3. To me, palm trees and hibiscus flowers are the most beautiful foliage to look at. I swear I plan trips around them!! So far I have been to Southern California, Mexico and Hawaii.

As a bit of a combination to number 2 and number 3: I love the Oregon Trail game that we used to play in Elementary. When I drove to California, I drove some of the Oregon Trail on the way back and even stopped in Walla Walla (FORT Walla Walla) to pick up the new version of the computer game.

4. Sometimes I pick fights just to start a debate. I swear I should be a politician or something.

5. About a year ago my dad gave me a sewing machine for my birthday. Since then I have sewed halloween costumes, 2 matching blankets and pillows for my niece and nephew, a quilt for my newest niece, lots of cushion covers & really cool summer pants. I have a huge list of what I want to do next too.

6. I adore art. Any shape or form. Pictures, music, acting, dancing, it all absolutely amazes me! I dabble in some myself whenever I have some spare time too, whether it be sand blasting, painting, or playing my guitar or piano, I love it all! This year for Chad's birthday I got him a season's pass to Theatre Calgary, we're so excited.

7. My eyes are blue. Or silver. Or grey. Or maybe green. No one really knows, including me. They seem to change on a regular basis.

Unfortunately, I don't know enough people on blogger to tag another 7 people for this, so really, it's just for Susan!! And Mike too - Mike, if you want to go ahead and do this, you should.

Thanks to Everyone!

I know this is a week late... but... I've been busy :p

To everyone that made my birthday extra amazing this year:

To Darlene, for a very fitting princess card with the sweetest things to say inside. I try not to cry at work but I think this was an exception ;)

To Susan, who amongst her busy schedule, her 5 million final exams this week, and everything she has to remember, was able to find the time to give me a call (she even had to track down my company and everything to get my number!)

To Ryan, for not forgetting his best friend’s birthday even if I forgot his lol.

To Paul, for remembering and I’m not sure how.

To Mike, for spending too much time writing the Happy Birthday song all out complete with music notes (IT people, they know how to have fun with emails)

To Chad’s mom for the unexpected call and lovely chat.

To my supervisor, Binh, who took me out for lunch and the much needed break. And pumped me full of vietnemese coffee… so unbelievably good.

To my sister Melanie for calling me even though we never have anything to say. It was really nice to hear from her.

To my mom who woke up a few hours early just to be one of the first to wish me a happy birthday

To my dad who actually got me something I could use this year!!! hahaha

To my nephew Gregory who is just ADORABLE on the phone.. He called to tell me his Daddy is at work today to make money to buy me a bike for my birthday lol.

And of course to Chad who warmed the car up for me, brought me a coffee and breakfast this morning at work, and of course all the presents, special words, and sweet kisses. He actually bought the LAST pair of the earrings I wanted in Calgary. He had to drive to the opposite end of the city for them!

To all of you, THANK YOU, you are all amazing and I feel so blessed to have you in my life.

I love the snow!

On Sunday Chad, Ryan and I went off in search of hills full of snow and slopes worth riding. With us was a tube and two crazy carpets (and lots of layers of clothing as it was cold out). We had a blast, almost hit a fence a few times, and were definitely full of snow from head to toe. I think winter is so much fun, especially when you remember how to enjoy it.

Coincidence?

Ok, so I have decided that this is more than just coincidence. Tell me, why is it that as soon as my car hit 60,000 kms everything started breaking down? The warranty on my car was, of course, 60,000 kms... that is, it would have been if I would've bought it March 21, 2004. BUT, I bought it March 22, 2004 meaning that I got the new, 100,000 km warranty. Therefore, if my hunch is correct, they didn't have enough time to switch over the computer in my car to say that it is to break down at 100,000 kms instead of the original 60,000.

The worst part is that the dealership that I brought my car to was determined that I had the old warranty. So here is how it all went down (I hate mechanics).

7:00 am – Get to Hyundai Dealership, drop off car

Tracey: Good morning! I’m here to drop off my car for the oil change that I had booked for today. I also had a couple other things that I was hoping you could look at today.
Daniel: [guy at counter, super friendly] Of course, says here you want the starter to be looked at and the horn fixed? (the headlights had also both burnt out within 2 weeks of eachother right at the time as well).
Tracey: Right
Daniel: Ok then, we’ll have that ready for you for 5:00. Do you want a call when we know how much it’s going to cost and then you give us the go-ahead or should we just fix it all and give you the total when you come and get it?
Tracey: What total? An oil change is $42.00. There’s your total.
Daniel: It says here your car has 68,000 kms. Since it’s no longer under warranty you will have to pay for the other stuff.
Tracey: No I don’t. I have warranty up to 100,000 kms or 5 years for parts and labour, and 120,000 kms/7 years for powertrain. It’s still covered. [glares]
Daniel (he has an accent by the way, something similer to east indian): No… no no, when did you buy your car?
Tracey: March 22, 2004, the DAY warranty switched over to the new warranty.
Daniel: No, no I don’t think it’s still covered.
Tracey: Look into it. It’s covered.

10:00 am – phone rings, it’s Daniel.

Daniel: Ok, so we got the prices figured out. It will be $150 for the labour for checking out the car, the horn will be $24 and the clutch switch will be $31 and the labour for those two will be $90. Should we go ahead with it? That comes out to $295.00.
Tracey: Great. I don’t care what it came to since it’s still covered and so free for me. Thanks.
Daniel: No… no your car isn’t covered anymore.
Tracey: Yes, it is.
Daniel: I don’t think that it is.
Tracey: Well, look into it.

10:30 am – Tracey phones Hyunai Canada, explains problem.

Hyundai Canada: Well that’s interesting. By the date you bought your car you are covered for 100,000 kms or 5 years. I wonder why they’re giving you so many problems with that?
Tracey: I don’t know either.
Hyundai: What dealership is it at and what’s the phone number for them? They’ll be hearing from us.

11:00 am – Phone rings, it’s Daniel.

Daniel: Hi, Tracey?
Tracey: Hi. Get a phone call recently?
Daniel: Yes, yes, I’m so sorry. I guess your car is still covered, all of that will be free of charge. Sorry about the confusion. Your car will be ready for 5:00 like originally planned.
Tracey: I told you so. So, it’ll be washed and detailed for my troubles and stress, right?
Daniel: yes, yes we’ll do that for you, not a problem.
Tracey: Good. See you tonight.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Like, honestly, does it have to be that hard?? I'm just curious as to what else is going to fall apart, if there's more on the way to deal with, or if they have switched the computer in my car to combust at 100,000 kms. At least my car came back clean.

I have a new addiction

Have you ever read any of the Vinyl Cafe stories? They are so fabulous! On the way to Swift Current this weekend for my nephews birthday Chad and I put in one of the CD's my sister made me with a few stories on it.I don't think we've laughed that hard in a long time!! And they really hit close to home! So today him and I went to the library to get a couple of books so we can start reading the short stories at home. To anyone that hasn't heard of them, go get one from the library! Highly recommended!!!
